MDP makes history with landslide victory at parliamentary elections

Main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has achieved a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections held this Saturday.

Interim results show over 50 MDP candidates are projected to secure seats at the Parliament.

They include Mickail Naseem who contested for the South Galolhu seat, Hisaan Hussain who contested for the Thulhaadhoo seat, Mohamed Rasheed (Boadhigu) who contested for the North Machangolhi seat, and Ahmed Saleem who contested for the Hoarafushi seat.

MDP supporters have taken to the streets to celebrate the historic victory. They are scheduled to gather at the Lonuziyaaraih Kolhu at 10:30 pm.

Interim results show Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) are projected to win four seats, and Jumhoory Party (JP) is projected to win six seats.
