Parking violation stickers issued to 232 vehicles last week

Maldives Police Service issued parking violation stickers to 232 vehicles during the one-week period from March 9-15, reports the agency.

Maldives Police Service has warned it will issue parking violation stickers for illegal parking in nine zones. They are:

  • Outside mosques
  • Zebra crosses, pavements
  • Street corners
  • Outside schools
  • Outside hospitals
  • Outside banks
  • Asphalt covered part of Boduthakurufaanu Magu
  • Areas with traffic cones, barricaded areas
  • Double lined areas

Statistics released by the Traffic Management Department of MPS this Sunday shows the agency called and removed 200 illegally parked vehicles.

Owners of illegally parked vehicles are first contacted by officers and asked to voluntarily remove their vehicles before officers intervene and remove the vehicles themselves.

The agency also conducted spot checks on 934 vehicles during the period; 139 of which were operated without a driving license.

Statistics show 53 roadside accidents took place last week.

Officers also stopped and questioned one driver for over speeding and one minor who was operating a vehicle.

42 motorcycles and 4 cars were towed by the agency during the period.
