The newly established Prison Audit Commission (PAC)has asked for public to send in information regarding prison conditions and treatment of inmates.
The Prison Audit Commission was established by Ministry of Home Affairs on December 18, 2018.
The PAC issued a statement this Wednesday in which it said the commission was in the process of collecting and analyzing information, and announced the opportunity to send in any information or concerns regarding prison conditions and treatment of inmates was now open to public.
The public can send pertinent information to the commission’s email [email protected], call the commission’s phone number 3321752 during working hours, send a letter to the commission or visit PAC’s office at Ministry of Home Affairs.
An audit of Maldivian prisons and detention facilities is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s First 100-Day Goals.
The purpose of the audit is to assess the current conditions of Maldivian prisons, identify areas which need reform, and compile a report – based on which the Ministry of Home Affairs aims to reform Maldivian prisons and ensure inmates their fundamental rights.
The members of PAC are:
