Free parking area established for airport staff

A free motorcycle parking area for airport staff has been inaugurated at the Velana International Airport.

The free parking area established by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) can accommodate up to 700 motorcycles at once.

Free parking for airport staff in one of the current administration’s First 100-Day Pledges.

At the inauguration this Monday morning, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula said it was her pleasure to announce staff at the airport will no longer have to pay the MVR 10 per hour fee to park their motorcycles.

Airport staff previously did not have a parking area designated to them, but had to use the general parking area designed for visitors.

It meant a staff on an eight-hour shift needed to spend at least MVR 80 on parking each day.

MACL’s Acting MD, Moosa Solih announced the company will increase the capacity of the parking area for staff to accommodate 1,300 motorcycles.

The current administrative has 15 First 100-Day Pledges dedicated to the transport sector. Five out of the 15 pledges have now been completed.
