NDMA launches DALA platform to digitize disaster damage reporting and strengthen evidence‑based decision‑making

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has launched a new digital platform, DALA, to modernize the reporting and assessment of disaster-related damage across the Maldives.

The platform was inaugurated this morning by Home Minister Ali Ihusaan.

According to NDMA, DALA is a national system designed to digitize disaster damage reporting, automate the preparation of damage assessments, and strengthen evidence‑based decision‑making. The authority said the platform replaces the previously manual assessment process with a secure, connected digital system.

With DALA, disaster information can be submitted online directly to relevant authorities, while damage calculations are generated automatically, improving both accuracy and efficiency. NDMA said the platform will be especially beneficial for individuals seeking assistance following disasters.

Through the portal, affected individuals can apply for aid, track the progress of their requests, and receive updates via SMS. NDMA believes this will significantly speed up response and recovery efforts.

The system also allows data to be categorized by disaster type, geographic area, population group, and property type. NDMA said this capability will help the authority better understand the impact of disasters and target support to the areas most in need.

NDMA CEO Hisaan Hassan said DALA represents more than a digital upgrade, describing it as a symbol of the government’s confidence in the Digital Maldives 2.0 policy.

The platform was developed with support from the governments of Denmark, Luxembourg, and South Korea through a UNDP funding window.
