President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 300 housing units will be built in Villimale', while Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib confirmed that construction of a 500-bed tertiary hospital on the island will begin within two months.

Speaking at the public meeting with Villimale' residents on Sunday evening, President Muizzu said the housing units will be reserved specifically for locals. He emphasized that the government’s housing policy is designed to ensure residents of each area benefit directly from projects in their community.

The President noted that the government has pledged 3,000 housing units nationwide, with Villimale’s allocation set aside exclusively for its residents.

At the same meeting, Infrastructure Minister Muthalib announced that work on Villimale's tertiary hospital is ready to move forward. He said preliminary preparations have been completed and construction will begin within two months.

The hospital, designed to accommodate 500 beds, will be one of the largest medical facilities in the Maldives. Once operational, it is expected to ease the burden on Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male' and improve access to advanced healthcare for residents of Villimale' as well as surrounding areas.

Both projects, housing and healthcare, are part of the government’s broader pledge to improve living standards in Villimale', which has seen rapid population growth. The housing units aim to address overcrowding and affordability concerns, while the hospital represents a major step toward decentralizing healthcare services.
