Velana International Airport (VIA) is scheduled to see over 50 domestic flights on Friday as supporters arrive for ruling People’s National Congress (PNC)’s mega rally scheduled for later tonight.

There are over 50 domestic flights listed on VIA’s Friday flight schedule, from midnight onwards. They include flights from national airline, Maldivian, Manta Air and FlyMe.

The surge in domestic flights coincides with the ruling PNC’s mega rally scheduled for tonight, which President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is set to attend. Large numbers of supporters from the islands are traveling to the capital, Malé, by air and sea to join the event.

Many supporters have already arrived in Male’ on Thursday and earlier today.

Notably, there have been allegations that political appointees and employees in state-owned companies have been ordered to participate in the event.

Maldives Police Service has announced a change to the traffic flow in the Artificial Beach area – where the event will be held – starting from 18:00pm this evening. In this regard, a segment of Majeedhee Magu, from Carnival Area to Zitouni Restaurant, will be completely closed off to the public.

In addition to this, there is a ban on four-wheeled vehicles in the majority of Heniveru district.
