The Maldivian society needs to revive religious customs such as the recitation of the Holy Quran between the Maghrib and Isha prayers that are being abandoned over busy lifestyles, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Addressing the closing of the 37th National Quran Competition on Sunday morning, President Muizzu said that back during his childhood, the sound of Quran would fill whole neighborhoods between Maghrib and Isha, with people reciting the holy book both in mosques and in the comfort of their homes.

He said that such practices have become lost in time as people engage in busy lifestyles.

He urged people to find time out of their busy schedules to perform such religious practices.

President Muizzu said that no society can know peace without performing their religious obligations.

“Therefore, we need to make the revival of these old customs a priority. We need to dedicate the time between Maghrib and Isha [for the recitation of Quran],” he said.

President Muizzu said that the ability to properly recite Quran must be treated as a matter of pride.

Following the Quran is the path to success both in this world and the hereafter, he said.
