A fisherman has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the state-owned Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to expand fishermen’s role in the company’s management.

The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) announced on Thursday the appointment of Reesham Mohamed Shareef, Rihiveli, G.Dh. Thinadhoo, to the MIFCO board.

With Reesham’s inclusion, MIFCO currently has six board members: Managing Director Brigadier General (Retd) Farhath Shaheer, Salah Shareef, Shimaz, Shazna Mohamed, and Zulaikha Yoomy Rasheed.

Three positions on the board, including the post of chairman, remain vacant following the reassignment of former chairman Ahmed Shareef to head the newly formed Maldives Fisheries and Ocean Resources Marketing and Promotion Corporation (MFORMPC).
