The Bank of Maldives (BML) says it expects to finish establishing ATMs across all inhabited islands of the Maldives in October.
The BML has opened a self-service banking ATM in Mandhoo on Wednesday, marking the expansion of ATM services across all inhabited islands of ADh. Atoll.
The new ATM was established as part of the “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM" initiative – an initiative that seeks to establish ATM services in all residential islands by the end of this year.
Addressing Wednesday’s ceremony, BML’s Head of Brand and Marketing Strategy Mohamed Saeed said the bank installed ATMs in 95 islands within the first eight months of this year.
This leaves just 10 islands for the BML to achieve its goal of nationwide ATM coverage.
Saeed said the bank expects to reach the goal within the next 20 days.
The national bank has now covered all inhabited islands of 17 out of 20 atolls, leaving just Addu City, L. Atoll, and Lh. Atoll.
The BML had launched the first ATM in the Maldives in 2000. The ATM in Mandhoo marked the bank’s 250th one.
