Last week saw a significant number of traffic accidents in Male' city and on the Sinamale' Bridge, with 46 incidents reported and eleven people sustaining injuries, according to statistics released by the Maldives Police Service.
On Sunday evening, police disclosed the accident data for the preceding week. A total of 46 accidents occurred, with the highest frequency recorded on last Sunday, tallying eight incidents. Monday followed with eight accidents, while the number stood at six for the subsequent three days. Friday saw a decrease to four accidents, but Saturday again recorded six incidents.
Of the total, seven accidents took place on the Sinamale' Bridge, with the remaining 39 occurring across various parts of Male' city. The statistics further reveal that 45 vehicles were damaged as a result of these accidents.
The majority of these incidents, 29, happened during daylight hours, while 17 occurred at night. Most accidents (43) involved minor injuries, with three classified as serious.
In terms of accident types, the most common collision last week was between motorcycles and cars, accounting for eleven incidents. Accidents involving only motorcycles followed with eight occurrences.
