A dangerous multi-vehicle collision took place on the Hulhumale’ Highway on early Monday, leaving four people injured.
The accident was reported to the police at around 12:45 am Monday, and involved six vehicles that were travelling from Male’ to Hulhumale’.
According to the police, the accident took place when a car crashed into another car that was stationary on the four-wheeled vehicle lane, and then veered out of control and crash into four motorcycles on the two-wheeled vehicle lane.
The police said the accident resulted in injuries to four individuals - all of them Maldivian males, who were rushed to the Hulhumale’ Hospital and the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City. Two of them have since been discharged, while the other two remain hospitalized, but show signs of improvement.
The IGMH confirms it received one of the accident victims – a 31-year-old male.
The hospital said he was being treated at the Emergency Room.
However, the details of his injuries, or that of the other victims, is unclear at this point.
Videos taken by witnesses in the aftermath of the accident shows that both the cars involved in the accident were taxis, and that all six vehicles suffered massive damages in the crash.
The accident is under investigation by the police.
