President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated on Sunday evening that increased automation of public services would lead to a reduction in corruption.
The President made these remarks during his tour of the atolls, where he addressed the government’s digitalization initiative, Maldives 2.0, in Mulah, Meemu Atoll.
The President emphasized that the core objective of this vision is to ensure the transparent delivery of state services to the populace and to eradicate corruption. He highlighted that the current susceptibility to undue influence often arises from the opportunities individuals are afforded to directly engage in processes, a phenomenon observed in both private and governmental institutions.
President Muizzu underscored that the realization of this vision is contingent upon its acceptance and belief by the public. He further announced that a substantial portion of next year's budget would be allocated to the digitization of all government offices, assuring the public that these efforts are undertaken for their benefit and are progressing comprehensively.
Maldives 2.0 represents the President's national vision for digital transformation. This initiative aims to fundamentally reshape governmental service provision, economic growth strategies, and the delivery of public services and essential information to every citizen and island across the nation.
Previously, President Muizzu has also indicated that upon the completion of the digitization process, one-third of government employees would transition to remote work arrangements.
