Supreme Court given deadline by MDP to make a decision on Judge Abdulla

Vice President of MDP Alhan Fahmee has said that a decision should be made within 48 hours, following the High Court ruling on the case of the Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed.

Speaking to reporters outside the Supreme Court following a meeting with Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussein, Feydhoo MP Alhan said that the Chief Justice indicated that he will give the necessary cooperation on this issue, and that in the event that the Supreme Court fails to attend to this case, he will make efforts to pressure them.

“We respect the words of the Chief Justice. We hope to see positive results, just like he said, within 48 hours. If that does not happen, we as citizens will have to raise our voices and pressure them,” Alhan said.

Alhan said that the Chief Justice indicated that he will submit a case to the Supreme Court, asking them to look into High Court’s decision regarding the reason behind Criminal Court’s order to delay the Judicial Service Commission from taking steps against Judge Abdulla.

“I noted that much work was carried out in the past few days and nights… Chief Justice said that he will do everything he can, even meet the seven Judges of Supreme Court perhaps tonight to make a decision regarding the case of Judge Abdulla,” Alhan said.

Alhan said that he hopes that efforts will be made in this regard.

“A quick decision should be made within 48 hours,” Alhan said.

Alhan further cited the Chief Judge and said that the order to delay the summon of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed to Police, can be appealed against. The Chief Justice also assured that as soon as the case is submitted, he will expedite its process and make a quick decision within the limits of the law.
