PNC 4 members and Nazim fail to disclose financial statements

Four People’s National Congress (PNC) MPs and the Maldives National Party (MNP) President Mohamed Nazim (Colonel Nazim) have not disclosed their financial statements.

The parliamentary administration has disclosed the financial statements of 88 out of a total of 93 members.

According to the rules of the Parliament, members must disclose financial statements one year after they are sworn in. Therefore, the members of the current 20th Parliament must submit their financial statements before the 31st of August, 3 months after their oath taking year after the 28th of May.

The Parliamentary Office on Wednesday said that all the financial statements received by the Members of Parliament have been disclosed. However, five members did not disclose financial statements.

The parliamentary office did not say which members.

However, according to the parliament's website, five members are showing not to have disclosed their financial statements. They are:

  • Mahchangolhi Central Constituency MP Ahmed Zameer

  • Maafannu North MP Mohamed Nazim

  • Maafannu West Constituency MP Mohamed Musthafa Ibrahim

  • Kurendhoo Constituency MP Mohamed Shamin Habeeb

  • Feydhoo North MP Ismail Nizar

Under the current rule, the information required to be completed in the financial statements, including spouses and children under the age of 18, includes:

  • Accounts of property and money in Maldives and abroad

  • Information on business interests

  • Accounts of debt and liabilities

  • If they have another job, the responsibilities of that job

According to the rules, financial statements must be submitted before August 31 of each calendar year.
