Nasheed will not go to court: Hamid

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Spokesperson International, also MP for Henveyru-South constituency Hamid Abdul Gafoor has said that he does not believe that former president Nasheed will heed the order issued by the Hulhumale’ Court to present him to court today.

Speaking to an Australian station Radio Australia last night, in response to their question "if he believes that it is likely that Nasheed will ignore the court order summoning him to court," Hamid said that “I do not believe he will appear, give himself up, to the people who were trying to murder him one year back.”

Hamid has also accused that the events that are taking place against Nasheed are part of a “coup.”

Hamid said that this is the second order issued to bring Nasheed to court and that if Nasheed comes out of the Indian High Commission he believes that it will put Nasheed's life in danger and that the purpose of the whole court case will hide the entire “coup” incident.

When the interviewer asked "why not allow the judicial process to continue if Nasheed has done nothing wrong", Hamid repeated that the “judicial process is the coup.”

When asked of he thinks the Indian High Commission might continue to allow Mohamed Nasheed to stay on their premises, Hamid said that the Indian High Commissioner was summoned to the Maldivian Foreign Ministry to show their discontent and that Mr. Nasheed has since been allowed to stay in the Indian High Commission.

Hamid said that the standoff will continue and that a lot of dialogue will also continue through diplomatic channels.
