High Commission has still not replied: Foreign Ministry

Foreign Ministry has said that the Indian High Commission has still not replied to their letter requesting assistance to implement the second order by Hulhumale’ Court, ordering the police to arrest former President Mohamed Nasheed and produce him to court.

The request to facilitate the implementation of the order was made to the High Commission by the Foreign Ministry on the behest of the police. The letter was sent to the High Commission on Monday.

This latest court order issued by Hulhumale’ Court regarding the case orders that Nasheed be presented to court at 4pm this evening. A permission from the High Commission is needed to enter their premises as Nasheed continues to stay inside the High Commission.

Foreign Ministry said that even though the High Commission has not replied to their letter, discussions between the two parties are still on going.

Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives D. M. Mulay was recently summoned to the Maldives Foreign Ministry and was given a message to convey to the Indian government regarding the continued stay of former president Nasheed inside the Indian High Commission. The Indian government however has not yet replied to the message.
