Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that they are currently looking into a corruption case involving Thoddoo MP Ali Waheed. They said their investigation is carried out in collaboration with the Police.
ACC Vice President Muavviz Rasheed said that Ali Waheed’s corruption case has been under investigation for some time now and that they are currently looking into matters that need to be further investigated along with the help of the police.
Sun has come to know that the ACC and Police are currently investigating a case where Ali Waheed’s mother Zuhra purchased a house named M. Enzian which belongs to an Ibrahim Shareef, which was a part of M. Oceanic Villa on Handhuravee Goalhi near Alcyon Bakery. The land was purchased for an amount of MVR 7,938,000.
Ali Waheed’s mother had previously told Sun that she did purchased land in Male’ and that it was not purchase from money that she owned herself, but rather with money earned by Ali Waheed’s father by working on a cargo ship. Zuhra has also denied that the land was purchase with money given by Ali Waheed.
Apart from the land purchased by Ali Waheed’s mother, Ali Waheed and his wife have also purchased two pieces of land from Hulhumale’ through a bidding process. The price of such a piece of land in Hulhumale’ is MVR 4.6 million each. The land purchased by Ali Waheed’s wife however has been cancelled due to inability to make payments.
Ali Waheed has said that the reason he is being investigated by these two institutions is because he is currently working to unravel the “coup” by working through his capacity as the chairman of the Parliament Committee on Oversight of the Government. He said that he has not yet been summoned to the Police or the ACC, and that therefore he is certain that there is no corruption case.
“Even until today, neither the police nor the ACC have asked me to come in relation to any corruption case. There is no reason to ask me either. There are no allegations. What I have to say is that I have the remote and the tail. My remote and tail cannot be squeezed so easily,” said Ali Waheed.
