A man suspected of having set fire to a house in Lh. Hinnavaru has been charged with terrorism.
Criminal Court Media Official Ahmed Mohamed Manik said today that the suspect is Nihadh Mohamed of Lucky, Lh. Hinnavaru.
He said that Nihadh is suspected of having set fire to Bijileege in Hinnavaru at around 11:30 pm on 31 August 2011.
The first hearing was scheduled for 9:00 am today, but cancelled due to failure by the suspect to attend.
Manik said that it has not been possible to bring Nihadh before court as his whereabouts are unknown. The police have also not been successful in their efforts to find him.
He said that efforts are ongoing to complete the trial as soon as possible.
A council member of Hinnavaru said today that the attack left the house burnt beyond use, and that the residents of the house were living in Male’ at the time of the attack.
He said that Nihadh was in the island about a week ago, and that the council had not been informed that he was wanted by the court.
