Probe into sexual abuse of young girl from southern island

Maldives Police Service has launched a probe into the alleged sexual abuse of a young girl from a southern island.

The Police said they received a report from an island in Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Gnaviyani and Seenu atolls regarding the alleged sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl by a person in a position of trust on July 16^th.

According to the Police, the case is under investigation by the respective island’s police station in collaboration with Family and Child Protection Department (FCPD).

The Police have withheld the island and atoll where the incident took place to protect the identity of the child, as such cases are treated with utmost seriousness.
