Launch and oil barge collide injuring 7 people

A speed launch heading to Male’ from Reethi Rah Resort has collided with an oil barge, causing an accident at sea.

Police have said that 2 of the people were seriously injured and have been taken to ADK hospital while the remaining 5 have been taken Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The details of their injuries have not yet been disclosed.

MNDF has said that the accident was reported around 8:50 this morning and that the collision occured between a launch of the “Sirius” series and an oil barge, and that the injured people were brought to Male' after being transferred to another Sirius launch.

Police have said that the launch was travelling to Male' carrying staff from Reethi Rah Resort and that the oil barge was anchored between Reethi Rah Resort and Galu Falhu when the launch collided.
