Discussions have been held between Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) regarding enhancing joint efforts between the two authorities to ensure public safety and protect national interests.

The discussions were held during a meeting between newly appointed Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen and Chief of Defense Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy at MNDF headquarters on Wednesday morning.

According to the Police, the meeting served as an introductory engagement following Naveen’s appointment.

Both leaders discussed ongoing efforts to maintain national security and the importance of continued cooperation between the Police and the MNDF. They also explored ways to enhance joint efforts to ensure public safety and protect national interests.

Naveen was appointed the new Commissioner of Police by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday. The post of the police chief became vacant on April 26, after Ibrahim Shujau resigned from the role following serial protests in Male’ City over allegations of a police coverup in the investigation into the case of a young woman who was found injured on the rooftop of a warehouse in Male’ on April 18 after falling from the ninth floor of the adjacent building.
