High Commissioner Mulay meets with Yameen

Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives D. M. Mulay has met with Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary Group Leader Abdulla Yameen today.

Sun has received confirmation of the meeting from both Yameen and High Commission Mulay.

The High Commissioner told Sun today that the purpose meeting was to to encourage dialogue among stakeholders to resolve the current situation. He added that he is in touch with officials in the Government of Maldives, political parties and other intellectuals to encourage conversation for a peaceful resolution.

Yameen said that he met with D. M. Mulay upon his request, and that meeting was held in the PPM office. Yameen said that the High Commissioner visited him to give assurance that the relationship between India and Maldives will remain unchanged, and also to assure PPM that he will continue to maintain that relationship.

Yameen told Sun that Mulay noted that he is confident that the current situation will be resolved peacefully and that he is hopeful for a favourable outcome.

Following a court order to arrest Nasheed in order to produce him for a court hearing, the former president has gone into the Indian High Commission in Maldives. Nasheed is being prosecuted for the illegal detention of Criminal Court judge Abdulla Mohamed during his presidency.
