A project to allocate free land plots from the greater Male’ area in exchange for giving up land located in narrow alleyways and streets and other locations in the Male’ City that are difficult to build on will begin this year, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
In an interview to Public Service Media (PSM) on Saturday, President Muizzu noted that Male’ has a lot of plots that are located in narrow alleys or in street corners, making it hard to build homes on or even get home construction loans for.
He said that his administration will launch a project where such plots can be exchanged with the government “soon.”
According to President Muizzu, people who give up such properties have the change to get land from Hulhumale’, Uthuru Thila Falhu, Gulhi Falhu, Giraavaru Falhu, or Rasmale’.
“Therefore, people who give up plots from locations in Male’ such as that, if the people in homes in narrow streets like that all agree to give it up and move elsewhere, the opportunity will be opened for them to get plots from the land being added in the Male’ region, including Rasmale’ and including Hulhumale’,” he said.
President Muizzu said that the plots that are given up will be converted into green spaces.
“God willing, we will conduct this project this year and allocate land and handover official documents,” he said.
He reiterated his pledge to ensure that no one in Maldives lacks housing by the end of his term.
