President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Aishath Asna Hameed, central Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA)’s Financial Sector Development Managing Director, as the bank’s deputy governor.

The post of the central bank’s deputy governor became vacant following Ahmed Imad's resignation, who previously held the position on March 17th.

A letter from President Muizzu nominating Asna for the position was read out during Wednesday’s parliamentary sitting. The matter has been forwarded to the Public Accounts Committee for review.

Asna, a long-serving official at MMA, brings extensive experience in the financial sector. She has previously held the position of Executive Assistant Director and most recently served as a Senior Manager before being appointed as Managing Director of Financial Sector Development. Her current role was established following a structural reform by MMA Governor Ahmed Munavvar, who reclassified all department head positions as managing directors.

Iman resigned amid rumors that the government was working on raising around MVR 15 billion by selling a large plot of land from Hulhumale’ to MMA.
