Police advise against swimming at Rasfannu due to engine oil spill

Maldives Police Service has advised against swimming at Rasfannu due to an engine oil spill at the beach.

Via a post on X, Police said they were investigating an engine oil spill at Rasfannu.

According to the Police, they were monitoring the area in collaboration with relevant authorities.

The Police did not disclose how the oil spill had occurred.

However, they have advised the public against swimming at Rasfannu due to this.

This is not the first instance of an oil spill in the lagoon surrounding Male’.

Last year, the Male' City Council conducted an investigation into a deliberate oil spill in Male' lagoon.

Prior to this, in 2023, the Police investigated oil spill at the lagoon area between the Presidential Jetty and the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL). While a total of 1,000 liters of oil was spilled into the lagoon, 400 liters were recovered.
