Maldives Coastguard Ship (MCGS) Huravee has set sail for the Maldives after undergoing repair works in India.
The ship was gifted by India in 2023, as a token of the strong friendship between Maldives and India. It required to undergo repair works last November. Due to Maldives’ poor financial state at that time, India decided to carry out the repair works free of charge.
The repair works, carried out over the course of five months since the ship’s arrival in India back in November, involved a major works concerning maintenance of all machinery, weapons and sensors, along with a habitability upgrade.
The ship was put through rigorous harbor and sea trials, operational checks of equipment, safety audits and Operational Sea Training before her departure.
A ceremony will be held at Hulhumale’ to commemorate the return of the ship. The ceremony which will celebrate close ties between Maldives and India will be attended by the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, senior officials from Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and honorees from both nations.
India will handover spare parts and equipment required to service the ship during this ceremony.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled plans to double the capacity of the Coastguard before the end of his five-year term.
