The court order issued by Hulhumale’ Court to take former president Nasheed to the court under police custody has been appealed in High Court.
A member of Nasheed’s legal team Hisaan Hussain told Sun today that they do not believe that the court order ordering the police to bring Nasheed to court under custody is valid, and the matter has been submitted for appeal in High Court this morning.
Hisaan said that they have also asked for a temporary court order to not arrest Nasheed until the matter of the arrest order has been decided.
She said that High Court however has not yet replied to their request.
Nasheed is being sought for the trial of the charges taken against him by state for the illegal detention of the Criminal Court judge Abdulla Mohamed. The former president’s legal team had said yesterday that Hulhumale’ Court has issued an order upon the police to arrest Nasheed and take him to court because he had failed to attend court for the last hearing. However, neither Hulhumale’ Court nor the Police have yet commented on the matter.
