Eid week declared a holiday; govt. closed from March 20th to April 6th

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared the week on which this year’s Eid al-Fitr falls on, a government holiday.

The President declared government holidays for Eid al-Fitr in Directive No. 6/2025 issued on Friday.

According to the directive, the government holidays for Eid will include March 31^st to April 3^rd if the Islamic Ministry announces 1st of Shawwal 1446 falls on Monday, March 31^st as per the calendar.

If the Ministry announces 1st of Shawwal falls on Sunday, March 30^th, the government holidays will run from March 30^th to April 3^rd.

As such, government offices will reopen after Eid holidays on April 6^th.

The President’s Office said the President’s decision was made to ensure that employees can enjoy uninterrupted holidays and spend more time with their families during Eid al-Fitr.
