Eid week declared a holiday; govt. closed from March 20th to April 6th

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared the week on which this year’s Eid al-Fitr falls on, a government holiday.

The President declared government holidays for Eid al-Fitr in Directive No. 6/2025 issued on Friday.

According to the directive, the government holidays for Eid will include March 31st to April 3rd if the Islamic Ministry announces 1st of Shawwal 1446 falls on Monday, March 31st as per the calendar.

If the Ministry announces 1st of Shawwal falls on Sunday, March 30th, the government holidays will run from March 30th to April 3rd.

As such, government offices will reopen after Eid holidays on April 6th.

The President’s Office said the President’s decision was made to ensure that employees can enjoy uninterrupted holidays and spend more time with their families during Eid al-Fitr.
