Approval sought to appoint non-resident ambassadors to five countries

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sought parliamentary approval to appoint four incumbent ambassadors as non-resident ambassadors to an additional five countries.

A letter from the President was read out at Monday’s parliamentary sitting in which he nominated the following ambassadors as non-resident ambassadors to an additional five countries.

  • Maldivian Ambassador to Malaysia Dr. Mariyam Shabeena as Non-Resident Ambassador to Brunei
  • Maldivian Ambassador to Belgium Geela Ali as Non-Resident Ambassador to Netherlands and Luxembourg
  • Maldivian Ambassador to UK Iruthisham Adam and Non-Resident Ambassador to France
  • Maldivian Ambassador to Singapore Mohamed Luveiz

Their names have been forwarded to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.

The Committee also approved increasing the responsibilities of six envoys by their appointment as non-resident ambassadors to additional nations and as permanent representatives to international organizations last week, as nominated by the President.
