Former tourism minister Ibrahim Faisal said on Tuesday that he will be seen playing a bigger role in politics in the future, as he confirmed his dismissal from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s cabinet.

Faisal, the son of Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the speaker of Parliament and chairperson of the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), had been among the original appointees to President Muizzu’s cabinet – on November 17, 2023.

The President’s Office confirmed Faisal was dismissed on Tuesday, but declined to specify the reason for the decision.

Faisal told Sun that he received his letter of termination in the morning. He added that the letter did not specify a reason for the decision.

Faisal said he will decide his next move after consulting with his father.

“In Sha Allah, you will see me play a stronger role in politics. I am no longer with the government, right?” he said.

Faisal said he served his role as tourism minister with sincerity.

Faisal said that unlike his predecessors who had faced various corruption allegations, he could guarantee that he never did anything that could facilitate corruption during his 15 months of service.

Faisal’s dismissal comes as sources within the PNC report friction between the top leaders of the party – President Muizzu and Abdul Raheem.

President Muizzu has appointed Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed to head the Tourism Ministry until a replacement is found.
