President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, citing Maldives’ relations with neighboring nations as extremely important, states his administration will nevertheless walk all paths, alongside any nation, ensuring development for Maldivian people.
He made the remark during an exclusive interview with state media, PSM, after concluding his official visit to Estonia.
In this regard, the President emphasized the crucial importance of neighboring nations to the Maldives, stating that this reality will remain unchanged. However, he cited the need to explore the most beneficial avenues for Maldivian people while maintaining the closes relationships with neighboring nations.
He assured that his foreign policy would always remain the same, while expressing keenness to explore all opportunities that benefit the Maldivian people, provided they align with the country's interests and uphold its independence and sovereignty.
As such, he said close relationships will be maintained with other nations that facilitate assistance for the development of Maldives’ and prosperity for its citizens.
The President, citing the Maldivian people accepted his manifesto, said his goal was to turn this vision into a reality. He described his visit to Estonia as part of these efforts, adding that his trips to other countries were also aligned with the same objective.
“But this does not mean countries we have traditionally had good relationships with are no longer important for us. All of them are important for us. We are resolved to walk all paths that ensure prosperity for Maldivian citizens,” he said.
President Muizzu’s official visit to Estonia was at the invitation of his Estonian counterpart, Dr. Alar Karis.
According to the President’s Office, President Muizzu’s Estonia visit was aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring partnership opportunities in digital technology, cybersecurity, e-governance, climate issues, and education between the Maldives and Estonia.
He was accompanied by a high-level delegation of the Maldivian government.
