Probe launched over game being played at a mosque

Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed states action will be taken against individuals found to have violated the sanctity of mosques in accordance with the laws and regulations amid the circulation of a video showing a group of people playing games inside a mosque.

The viral video, which surfaced on social media, has sparked public outrage.

Minister Shaheem, via a post on X, confirmed that the video, which depicts individuals engaging in disrespectful behavior within the mosque, had come to the Ministry’s attention. As such, he said that the Ministry is currently investigating the incident.

He affirmed that action will be taken against individuals found to have violated the sanctity of the mosque in accordance with the Religious Unity Act.

The viral video shows individuals of both genders participating in a game where they balance paper cups on their heads. While it is unclear which mosque the incident occurred at, some of the people seen in the video are believed to be expatriates.
