President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the contract pertaining to the development of a fish factory in GDh. Fiyoari will be signed in February.
The President made the announcement while speaking at a meeting with Fiyoari residents on Tuesday night as part of his ongoing tour of Huvadhoo Atoll.
While emphasizing that fishermen of the island faced significant difficulties in weighing their catch at the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex, President Muizzu said he sought to pledge and fulfill those pledges made to citizens.
One of his presidential pledges includes the development of the fish factory in Fiyoari.
According to the President, the project will be awarded to the Chinese contractor. Once the agreement is signed, he said the contractor will begin work on the development of a fish factory in the island that will be able to weigh 3000 tons of fish. He elaborated that the facility will have the daily capacity to pack 100 tons of canned fish, as well as provide 3000 tons of cold storage and a 50-ton ice plant.
During the meeting, President Muizzu said priority will be given to renovating the school hall, in addition to creating a multipurpose hall, classrooms and lab. This was in reference to concerns raised by Fiyoari Council.
The President acknowledged concerns raised by citizens regarding access to ATM services and assured that the issue would be addressed. He also assured that the island's waste management system would be improved.
