Schools have reopened after midterm holidays for the remainder of the second term of the ongoing academic year.
Schools reopened after a two-week break, including the government holidays in conjunction with the new year.
The second term commenced after the first term holidays on Sunday, October 6th.
Prior to this, the Education Ministry has said 96,000 students - 40,300 females and 42,700 males - are enrolled in various grades this academic year.
17,000 out of the 96,000 students are studying at schools based in Male’ area.
Over 13,000 students are studying in private schools, of which approximately 9,000 students are studying at private schools based in Male’ area.
Notably, many had traveled both domestically and internationally during the school holidays. The severe weather conditions Maldives faced over the past week had hindered travel. The weekend particularly saw nationwide heavy rain. However, weather conditions are now gradually improving, as forecasted by the Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office).
