Three motorcycles were involved in an accident on the Hulhumale’ Highway on early Monday, leaving five people injured, including a pregnant woman.
According to the police, the accident was reported to the agency at around 12:11 am Monday.
A police spokesperson said the accident took place when one of the motorcycles attempted an illegal overtake. The motorcycle crashed into the another one during the overtake attempt, while a third one coming in from behind also collided with the vehicles, resulting in a three-vehicle pileup.
All three vehicles were travelling from Male’ City to Hulhumale’.
The police said that the accident resulted in injuries to five people. All five were taken to the hospital. Four of them were discharged after treatment, while the fifth is being treated at the Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale’.
The hospital informed the police that this individual is not in serious condition, said the police.
An eye witness told Sun that the people injured in the accident included two women, one of them pregnant.
The police said the motorcycle involved in the takeover attempt has been towed by the police for violation of traffic rules.
The case is under investigation by the police.
