Shahid arrested over MVR 24 million corruption allegations

Former head of the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) Abdulla Shahid has been arrested for actions of corruption mentioned in an audit report, for amounts of MVR 24 million from the Centre during 2009 and 2010.

Police Media Official Sub-Inspector Hassan Haneef said that Shahid was arrested under a court warrant at 11:03 this morning, and that he was arrested following a joint investigation conducted by the Police and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in relation to the MVR 24 million corruption case.

Police Media Official also said that Shahid’s period of detention will be extended, relating to the arrest of two other people last year, who were also arrested in relation to the NDMC corruption case.
