Police have said that both young men found dead recently, one in Hulhumale’ on Tuesday early morning and another in Male’ on Wednesday early morning, have tested positive for drugs.
Police have however not revealed the type of drugs that showed positive.
Police identified the body discovered on the pavement at the intersection of Huvandhumaa Hingun and Hithigas Magu around 4:40am Tuesday morning, as Mohamed Shahud Nazim (19 years), M. Mercury. Less than 48 hours later, at around 3:30 am Wednesday morning, another body was discovered in the park in front where Dhivehi Raajeeyge Adhu was formerly located. Police confirmed the identity of the second person as Ahmed Nazeef Shaukath (21 years) H. Augusta.
Amidst the unexpected deaths of two young men, Police Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz has said that a fake type of the drug LSD is currently in circulation in the Maldives. National Drug Agency (NDA) has also advised people to be cautious about a strong and dangerous drug suspected to be in currently circulation in the society.
