India warns to deport those who sublease rented property

Indian government has said that it is illegal to sublease and allow people to stay on a business basis on rented property in Trivandrum and that those Maldivians who keep doing so will be deported.

Maldives Foreign Ministry said that the news was conveyed to the Maldives government during a meeting held between officials of the Maldives High Commission, First Secretary of the Maldivian Consulate Mohamed Faruhad and attaché Ibrahim Azeez and the Trivandrum Foreigners Registration Regional Officer. The objective of the meeting was to work towards alleviating the difficulties faced by Maldivians living in Trivandrum.

Maldives Foreign Ministry said that the Foreigners Registration Regional Officer said that it is illegal for Maldivians living in Trivandrum to sublease their rented property, allowing other Maldivians who visit the state for medical purposes to stay by charging them on a business basis.

The representatives of the Maldivian consulate discussed ways with the Foreigners Registration Regional Officer to ease the problems such as registration, visa extension and the obtaining other permits.

Foreign Ministry also said the Foreigners Registration Regional Officer said that 90 percent of the Maldivian live in Trivandrum are law abiding, and that proper action against those who do not respect the laws.
