Fathimath Ashan made history on Sunday by becoming the first female managing director to be appointed to the Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) – a subsidiary of the State Trading Organization (STO).
STO announced the appointment on Sunday afternoon. According to STO, Ashan is not just the first woman to head FSM, but also the first female managing director within the STO Group.

STO said the appointment marks the organization’s commitment “to progress and exceptional leadership.”
Ashan replaces Ismail Suhail, who stepped down from his position as the managing director of FSM on November 26.

She previously served as STO’s senior general manager and as deputy CEO of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).
