Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has said that it would become a large political party in the future and that no other party can come to power without MDA’s help.
MDA Spokesperson and Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir said at a press conference held at MDA office tonight, that the political scene in the Maldives is not controlled by any one party and that in the future, no one would be successful without the help of MDA.
“In the present political scene in the country, no one political party can say yet that a particular thing would be done a particular way by that party alone. So from now on, MDA will play a role in everything that’s done in the political scene. Which means that no party can come to power without MDA’s help,” he said.
Amir said that MDA would not personally oppose any other political party, and that the country does not yet have a political party that MDA would follow and support. He said that MDA would not influence people to join or leave a particular party as part of its efforts to increase membership.
Referring to the passing by the parliament of the bill on political parties which states that every political party should have a minimum of 10,000 members, Amir said that the rights guaranteed by the constitution were severely restricted by this bill.
