More than 260 Maldives Police Service officers were granted training opportunities from various foreign institutions, said the Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau on Monday.
Shujau made the remarks while speaking at the closing ceremony of the 37th Police Initial Training course held in Addu City on Monday evening. Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner highlighted the law enforcement authority’s efforts in providing training and academic opportunities to its officers from foreign institutions.
The Commissioner also noted these opportunities are possible due to the immense consideration of the government, and thanked the current administration for its continued support in realizing these opportunities.
Shujau implored the graduates of the initial training to uphold integrity, discipline and the virtues of performing their responsibilities.
He further emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline to ensure police officers are capable and responsible professionals.
“I urge all of you officers to maintain your manners and discipline both on and off duty hours,” Shujau said.
He also noted the efforts made to boost public confidence on the authority and increase its capacity both in terms of skills and infrastructure.
A total of 171 recruits completed their training in the 37th Initial Training, which included 39 female officers.
