Applications opened for fisheries scholarships from abroad

Applications have been opened for higher education opportunities from abroad in the field of fisheries as part of scholarships offered to the Maldives by the World Bank.

As per an announcement gazette by the Fisheries Ministry, the scholarships have been offered to Maldives under World Bank’s ‘Transforming Fisheries Management in South West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives’ project.

A total of three scholarships will be offered under the program from an Asian nation: two slots for Bachelor’s Degree in fisheries science and one slot for Bachelor’s Degree in aquaculture.

The following expenses will be covered under the scholarship:

  • Course fee
  • Book allowance (Once a year during the duration of the course)
  • Establishments allowance (Once)
  • Departure allowance (Once)
  • Stipend (For the duration of the course)

Prospective candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • ‘C’ plus grades in at least five subjects in O’ Levels and ‘C’ plus grades in at least three subjects in A’ Levels or
  • Foundation or certificate level qualification for university entrance

Interested individuals have been instructed to submit their applications alongside the supporting documents before 12:00pm on January 9th. The Ministry stressed that applications would be rejected if it lacks the necessary supporting documents.

 

Students selected for the scholarship will be subject to a bond under the Civil Service Regulation which would require them to work at the Fisheries Ministry for a stipulated period.
