Fisheries Ministry has advised against conducting unauthorized marine studies in Maldivian sea territories.

The Ministry, in a statement on Thursday, underscored having taken note of some parties carrying out studies on Maldivian seas and marine life in addition to fisheries and fish stock without obtaining the necessary permit, thus, in violation of the ‘Regulation on Conducting Research on Maldivian Seas and Marine Life’.

They also noted some cases where parties had applied for the permit, but launched the study before the ministry greenlighted the research.

Subsequently, Fisheries Ministry has urged parties interested in conducting research on Maldivian seas and marine life in addition to fisheries and fish stock to seek the necessary permit two months prior to the date they wish to commence the study.

The permit can be requested via the Ministry’s research portal.

“Carrying out such research or assessment without a valid permit is illegal,” the statement read.
