The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) on Saturday has decided to appeal the High Court decision regarding former Vice President Abdulla Jihad at the Supreme Court.

PG is seeking to challenge the High Court judges’ council decision regarding Jihad’s case at the court. The council upheld the judgement of the court.

The state is pressing charges against Jihad for signing off Fushidhiggaru as a special tourist zone in January 2013 during his tenure as the Minister of Finance.

High Court had dismissed the case claiming the summoning chit had not been delivered to Jihad after which PG was granted another opportunity to resubmit the case, which expired on October 13th.

The first appellate court dismissed to resubmission citing PG had submitted the appeal two days after the legally mandated appeal period. PG challenged this with a judicial review to the High Court judges’ panel on October 30th, where it upheld the court’s decision to dismiss the case.

PG Office spokesperson Ahmed Shafeeu confirmed to ‘Sun’ they will appeal High Court’s decision to Supreme Court, and subsequently resubmit Jihad’s case to High Court again on Sunday.

Jihad is the current Chairperson of the Maldives International Financial Services Authority (MIFSA).
