Ex-BroadCom VP Fazeen charged in sexual harassment case

Fazeen Mohamed.

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has pressed charges against Mohamed Fazeen, former vice president of the now dissolved Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom), in the alleged sexual harassment case against him.

Fazeen is accused of sexually harassing one of the commission’s female employees.

He resigned from his post on March 17, 2024, after the Parliament initiated a no-confidence motion against him.

PGO, on Wednesday, announced Fazeen has been pressed with two charges. They are:

  • Assault under Article 120 of the Penal Code
  • Sexual assault under Article 17 of the Sexual Offenses Act

The charges were filed on Sunday.

Fazeen has denied the allegations against him in a letter by his legal representative. In this regard, the lawyer said the Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee, the police and the Broadcom committee uncovered no proof of the allegations against him beyond hearsay.

A former reporter at RaajjeTV, Fazeen was appointed as a member of Broadcom on March 7, 2021, and as the commission’s vice president on January 19, 2023.
