Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) states Maldives’ air quality has improved temporarily while warning the nation will experience poor air quality in the upcoming days.

Maldives experienced poor air quality over the past few days which was attributed to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, which is spreading the haze from India.

Speaking to Sun regarding the matter, on official from Met Office said Maldives usually experiences poor air quality during the northeast monsoon. However, the official noted that Met Office has yet to declare the beginning of the northeast monsoon.

Thus, the air quality will decrease again once the northeast monsoon begins, added the official.

As per the official, the air quality will vary from different regions. The poor air quality is expected to continue until March.

Unlike mist or fog, haze is caused by fine particles in the air, which pollute the air and reduce visibility.
