The national weather agency has advised seafarers to be cautious, as strong winds and rough seas prevail across the Maldives.

In a weather update on Saturday, the Maldives Meteorological Service said it forecasts scattered showers with a few thunderstorms over northern and southern atolls, and a few showers over central atolls.

The agency forecasts west to northwesterly winds of 15-25 miles per hour over southern atolls, and 10-20 miles per hour elsewhere.

Winds may gust to 45 miles per hour during showers.

Meanwhile, seas are expected to be rough with waves of 4-7 feet in southern atolls, and moderate becoming rough during showers with waves of 3-6 feet elsewhere.

“Seafarers are advised to be cautious,” said the weather agency.

Last week, the weather agency had warned that Maldives was expected to experience strong winds and rough seas – a combination of the effects of a depression over the Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure area situated over the far southeast of the Maldives.
