Man arrested for sexual abuse of 10-year-old girl

The police have arrested a suspect in the sexual abuse of a young school girl in central Maldives.

According to a police spokesperson, the sexual abuse of the young girl, aged 10 years, was reported to the South Central Police, which comprises of islands in M. Atoll, F. Atoll, Dh. Atoll, Th. Atoll and L. Atoll, on Monday.

The police arrested a 51-year-old Maldivian man in the case the same day.

The case is under further investigation by the police, said the spokesperson.

Crimes against children are treated by the police as serious offenses. The law enforcement agency does not disclose the island where such crimes take place in order to protect the identity of victims.
