The family of the person found dead this morning in Hulhumale’ has said that he died because his heart stopped beating.
Mohamed Shahud Nazim (19 years), M. Mercury was found dead around 4:40am this morning, on the pavement at the intersection of Huvandhumaa Hingun and Hithigas Magu. The uncle of the victim, Deputy Minister for Fisheries Ali Solih said that Shahud had undergone heart surgery when he was very small.
“Even if you come here and look now, you will see large scars on his front back due to the operations,” said Solih. He said that his nephew was never able to be very active and that he often had to visit the hospital for treatment.
Shahud’s death certificate produced by the hospital states that he died due to cardiac respiratory failure. It does not however state the reason for his heart and lungs to stop functioning.
The police have previously stated that Shahud died of a drug overdose and that two intoxicated individuals were arrested near the place where Shahud found. Police have since apologized for their statement.
Solih said that his nephew works at a private company and that his family was aware of the fact that he came to Hulhumale’ for a barbeque last night.
Shahud’s funeral prayer and burial will be conducted after Asur prayer today.
